Decks and Screened Porches in Suwanee, GA

We have torn out a rotting double deck in Suwanee and added a screened porch to another home. Here is what went into both.

Who builds decks in Suwanee, GA?

Northside Construction Co. builds decks, screened porches and covered porches in Suwanee, Georgia. We are based a short drive away in Buford, and we have finished more than one project in Suwanee, including the two below.

What has Northside built in Suwanee?

One backyard where everything had rotted, and one home that wanted a room outside without the bugs.

Rotting double deck to a freestanding deck, Suwanee

This backyard had a deck up top, a big staircase down to a second wooden platform, and a railroad tie retaining wall holding it all up. All of it was rotted through. We tore out both decks and the old wall and regraded the slope. A partner crew built the new retaining wall, steps, low voltage lighting, paver patio and fire pit. Then we built a 16 by 16 foot freestanding deck.

  • Grade one lumber package
  • One engineered beam spans the full 16 feet on two 8x8 posts, so there is no post in the middle of the patio below
  • Composite decking with hidden fasteners
  • Black powder coated steel rails

How is a Northside deck built?

With joists every 12 inches, bolted to the house, on grade one lumber. Here is the rest of what goes into every deck and porch we build in Suwanee.

Joists every 12 inches

Most decks are framed at 16. Ours are framed at 12, composite included, so the floor does not bounce.

Bolted to the house

Where the deck meets your house, the ledger board gets bolted, not nailed.

Grade one lumber

The frame holding up your family is built from grade one lumber.

Solid posts

No skinny post wrapped in trim to fake a bigger one. The corners on those open up within a few years.

Steel piers when the soil is bad

If the ground cannot carry the load, we drive steel piers down to ground that can, instead of digging deeper and hoping.

A bid with every line on it

Every part of the build is itemized, down to the manufacturer of what goes on your project.

Questions about building in Suwanee

Do you build decks in Suwanee?

Yes. In Suwanee we replaced a rotting double deck with a freestanding composite deck, and we added a screened porch with a tongue and groove ceiling to another home. Both are shown on this page.

Can you replace a rotting deck on a sloped yard?

Yes. On the Suwanee job above, we removed two rotted decks and a failing railroad tie wall, regraded the slope, and built a freestanding deck on one engineered beam. Freestanding means the deck stands on its own posts and beam instead of hanging off the house.

Is a screened porch worth it in Georgia?

If you plan to stay in the house, we think so. A screened porch keeps the bugs out, and with ceiling fans you can use it most of the year. Add heaters and the season gets even longer.

Who runs my project?

An owner. Tyler Blaylock and Alexander Sanchez own Northside, and one of them runs every job, from the first walk of your yard to the final walkthrough. Tyler handles sales and your questions. Alexander runs the build side.
